Ábalta School was borne out of the identified need for children with autism to get a specific focused education. It is Ábalta’s mission to provide the highest quality of education to its students with autism. This is achieved by only using a scientifically proven educational methodology, specifically Applied Behavioural Analysis. By doing so, Ábalta is able to provide each child with an education that is tailored to his or her individual needs.
To help raise funds for Ábalta, on the June Bank Holiday weekend 2011, 7 hikers, Peter Delmer, Padraig Mulcahy, Paul O' Grady, Gary Doherty, Dympna Calvey, Dermot Hughes and Oonagh Hassett will take part in an epic journey from Oughterard to Westport, by foot. Over 60 miles in 4 days cross country taking them along the banks of one of Ireland longest lakes, Lough Corrib, onto an area of open moorland into Maam. From Maam heading over Maumeen and following an ancient pilgrim's trail that leads into the Maumturk Mountains, down the Inagh valley passing by Croagh Patrick to finish in Westport. The fundraising team will be holding a Table Quiz in the Huntsman Inn, College Road, Galway on Tuesday evening May 10th at 8pm to raise money for Ábalta. Tables of 4 @ 40 Euro each. 100% of all money raised goes directly to Ábalta.
